It was a cold night in West Hollywood. Lines of fans, friends, and family were seen outside the venue. The show had not begun, yet the room was already tightly packed. I looked up to the ceiling, my eyes meeting a disco ball as the lights dimmed. The crowd cheered and BRAYTON’s set began.

BRAYTON’s opening set held a unique energy. Any chills leftover from waiting out in the cold were suddenly gone, as every concert-goer was fixated on the fire on stage. Accompanied by Cameron Hornbeck (guitar) and George Statoni (drums), BRAYTON brought a fiery passion that pulsated through the entire room. Pulling no punches, he had the crowd singing along, most notably during the performance of i can’t watch another have all of you. Even during moments in-between songs, the crowd did not lose the sparkle in their eyes, as BRAYTON described taking music lessons in Jupiter, Florida from the same instructor that taught Kami Kehoe to play the drums - more than likely having been in the same classroom too. BRAYTON’s set felt like a moment where the world stopped, drenching our hearts in gasoline to await the spark that would light them ablaze.

Shortly after the opening set, Kami Kehoe took the stage. Deep and hard-hitting, her vocals put the audience in a trance that craved more and more, as they blended with the instrumentals provided by Nico Diaz (bass), Andrew Stephenson (guitar), and Benzo (drums). Standing in the midst of the pit, my eyes glowed at the sight of everyone’s hearts on fire. As I shifted through the venue towards the edges in the back, I was hit with the realization that the energy was not concentrated solely in the pit - it was evenly spread throughout the entire venue. A sold out show at The Roxy Theatre. Packed from wall to wall, yet no one let up in that crowd. Despite all the wild energy, you could also feel how safe the space was. That was an observation that stood out to me the most. Being able to have a place in the scene where anyone, but especially women, could equally enjoy the experience was substantial. The fire lit up in my heart showed no sign of going out during this set. Having thought that was the peak moment was a mistake. Towards the end of her set, Kami Kehoe took her place at the drums for a solo and something sonically shifted for me. Suddenly, the rhythm of the drums shook through the venue - right into my chest. The beat of the drums assumed control and replaced my own heartbeat. An ethereal feeling unlike any I have felt before.
